Fashion has a constant case of nostalgia, and the newest-old-thing is the Baja.

This surfer staple (hello, Jeff Spiccoli!) is fast becoming the ne plus ultra of the too-cool-to-look-like-I-care crowd.

Throw one on over a gown (a la Celine resort) for the "Shaman Hippie Hollwood" look, as Phoebe Philo called it. Or, pair one with sporty printed short-shorts for an urban day vibe (thank you, Proenza, also Resort).

Fortunately, one need not go to Bergdorf's to shop for this beach wear staple (or wait until November). Cool young Brooklyn-based designers Ace & Jig developed their own line of Baja fabric in India, and offer the classic hoodie, and dresses too.

For the legit iteration, which never went away just underground, Señor Lopez's from Mexico is the place to go. This retro number was recently spotted on the fashion-mad site Polyvore.

Miss Crazy Bananas, aka Rachel Zoe, is back for another season of her Bravo reality show and finally, she has a legitimate reason to be screaming "I die!": It's the "knife twisting all around" in her bone-thin back.

The stylist-to-the-stars is so absolutely beyond, you know, furious over the departure of longtime assistant Taylor Jacobson that her claims of betrayal dominate the first episode of "The Rachel Zoe Project" season 3, which premieres Aug. 3.

As StyleList learned from a preview of the new season, Jacobson may have left Zoe's employ under a cloud of suspicion, but her tom-glam ghost looms large in Zoe's Chanel-clad universe.

"The last thing I want to hear is something good about Taylor," says Zoe, her face contorting as she learns that her ex-employee has hooked up with her former agency. It gets worse: Jacobson has snagged celebrity clients and is booking photo shoots!

Zoe mentions the knife twisting in her back so many times in episode one, it left StyleList wondering if the phrase is destined to become a Zoe-ism, right up there with "I die!" and "Bananas."

But wait! All is not lost for RZ Inc. As Zoe's reality star has risen, so apparently, has the willingness of some of her A-list clients to indulge Bravo's cameras.

Demi Moore, who last season was just a voice on Zoe's speakerphone, shows up in an Oscar de la Renta halter dress (we die!) and sky-high red Christian Louboutin pumps for a Harper's Bazaar photo shoot. (Could Cameron Diaz and Anne Hathaway be far behind?)

Moore doesn't say much as she poses with a giraffe, but Zoe claims her continued loyalty is an important coup because Jacobson worked so closely with the actress. (We're guessing Kate Beckinsale didn't get the stay-with-Zoe memo.)

Naturally, Tay Tay's abrupt departure is good news for Zoe's loyal, bow-tie-clad assistant, Brad Goreski. Seems he's been promoted to season 3 star!

Besides sporting a more refined look, the Canadian stylist gets a fancy new title and all the reality drama that goes with it. He even gets to pull wardrobe for Moore's shoot -- and send the interns to pick it up, natch!

No surprise, questions about the emaciated Zoe's health continue to dominate as the stylist and her doting husband/business partner, Rodger, begin their quest to produce a Lagerfeld-loving heir.

First, someone better pull that knife out and give the girl an IV. Stat!

"The Rachel Zoe Project" premieres Aug. 3 at 10/9 C on Bravo.

Not sure which kicks to wear to summer's hottest music festival? Adidas will be happy to help.

The sporty brand is a sponsor of this year's Lollapalooza, taking place in Chicago's Grant Park from Aug. 6-8. Besides the Adidas MEGA stage (which will feature hip-hop star B.o.B., The Walkmen, Chromeo, and more, festival goers can also pass some time between acts checking out the brand's MEGA shoe box interactive experience.

Inside the walls of the giant version of the company's Originals shoe box, folks'll find the new Adidas collection - and, of course, they'll be able to order new shoes on the spot (there's free shipping, too). If nothing else, it'll provide an opportunity to escape the heat for a few minutes.

And, to add a little more fashion to the music mix, Lollapalooza and Adidas also teamed up with Chicago-based artist Cody Hudson of Struggle Inc. to create the festival's 2010 limited-edition commemorative T-shirt.

Selling for $30 and available in three color combos (matching the new Adidas Originals MEGA collection -- white and blue, red and black, blue and yellow), they can be snapped up on site or at lollapalooza.com.

Maybe headliner Lady Gaga will trade in her latex and heel-less platform boots for a T-shirt and sneaks. Or not.

Eloise and Betsey Johnson seem to be cut from the same cloth.

They both break the rules, whether doing cartwheels on a catwalk or commandeering the elevator at the Plaza Hotel. Which is probably why Johnson was asked to bring the fictional six-year-old's suite to life.

"I do kind of seem to be the perfect kid to do this," Johnson told StyleList at the suite's press preview Thursday. "My reputation is of being pink and fun - I think they got my brand."

The room, on the 18th floor, is a pink palace, fully decked out with black and white zebra carpeting, two different kinds of rose-printed upholstery, sayings from Eloise scattered around the room and her name in neon above the king size bed.

"It has a nice Plaza classiness," Johnson described. "It's obviously what it should be. I read the books and was looking for a clue. Once I came here and saw what I had to work with. It's basically just fabric, paper and paint."

Rooming with Eloise is not cheap -- rates for the suite start at $995 per night - but it includes a monogrammed Eloise bathrobe, a $100 gift card to the Eloise shop, an Eloise camera, a framed photo of the guest inside the suite, and an Eloise book.

Seventeen "Project Runway" fashion designers descend on New York City's Lincoln Center with their suitcases in hand for the cruelest of reality-show twists: They're not exactly on the show yet!

In the much-hyped premiere of season 8's new 90-minute format, we learn the cast is really assembled for a final tryout.

And sew it begins:

The Challenge: The wannabes are told by host Heidi Klum and mentor Tim Gunn to pull an item of clothing from their bags to incorporate into an original design.

The Twist: The designers must pass this coveted possession to the virtual stranger to their right, who will then use it for their look.

The Workroom Drama: Hopeful Casanova (um, yes, that's his name) has given up his Dolce & Gabbana pants, which cost the 33-year-old lover boy exactly $1,070. What follows is tearful product placement for couture brands.

Everyone else is nervous because they are not "on the show" yet. But they are, natch.

The Guest Judge: Actress Selma Blair, looking rather matronly grown up in a boxy jacket and blouse, plays mean girl as she picks on the mom-ish capri pants pulled from the suitcase of 50-year-old prepster contestant Peach Carr. What did she expect? Short-shorts?

Best Runway Moment: Judge Nina Garcia sighs heavily and rolls her eyes at Casanova's barely there dress and having to interpret for him because his English seems limited. "Or," she speculates, "he's deaf."

Best Line by a Judge: Blair redeems herself with the mom-jeans crowd by describing Casanova's vulgar belly-dance dress this way: "It looks like it comes from some weird store in the mall called Dazzles, where they sell wigs and dresses."

Who's In: Oregonian Gretchen Jones, 28, who specializes in "sustainable" clothing, takes flight in the baggage-claim challenge for an elegant black dress that the judges call "perfectly done."

Who's Out: The judges put six designers on the chopping block, but zero in on new Utah mom McKell Maddox for a dress Gunn calls adorable (thus beginning the setup for his stated annoyance with the season 8 judging).

StyleList was bothered more by the boxy black thing thrown together by 33-year-old Greenwich, CT, landscape designer Jason Troisi. (Did he use his hedge clippers on it?)

Is there a Christian Siriano in the bunch?: StyleList is keeping its Fashion Week-finale eye on challenge winner Jones, Palm Springs designer Michael Costello, 27, and Mondo Geurra of Denver, whom Klum, 32, says "blew us away" at his tryout.

The Vatican's Swiss Guards are now cracking down on tourists sporting shorts, skirts, and exposed shoulders throughout the entire Vatican City State, the Telegraph reports.

Though previously the Pope's guards had only insisted on conservative dress for those entering St. Peter's Basilica -- even First Lady Michelle Obama donned a black veil while visiting last summer -- the new code reportedly also applies to the Vatican's pharmacy, post office, and grocery store.

Inappropriately dressed visitors have been denied entry or been forced to buy shawls and long pants, according to the paper.

Yikes. We're all for being respectful, but we have a hard time accepting fashion critiques from guards dressed like colorful court jesters.

The widespread crackdown has reportedly been met with charges of hypocrisy considering the ongoing accusations of misconduct surrounding the Catholic Church.

"Given all the scandals the Church has been involved in, what possible right can it have to be preaching about the morality of sleeveless dresses?" one woman told the Telegraph.

Although Emily Blunt looks like the picture of femininity on the September cover of Elle UK, the 27-year-old newlywed admits it's not her default style.

"I think I tend to dress quite hard," she tells the magazine in the accompanying article. "I'm definitely not a frilly girl and I don't wear dresses that much."

Yet, naturally, when she does wear them, she looks fabulous.

For the cover, the British actress wears sexy head-to-toe lace, donning a sheer blush and black dress from Valentino's Fall 2010 collection paired with black lace tights. Inside, she wears lots of flowy frocks in varying states of transparency.

"My style has changed, I hope dramatically. Because it started off kind of worrying and questionable," Blunt says in this behind-the-scenes video of the shoot.

"I now own what I wear, and I guess I dress a bit stronger now, a bit tougher than I used to. When I was a kid I used to like wearing men's colorful vests with white jeans. So, hopefully it's changed a bit."


And when it comes to dressing herself for big awards shows or movie premieres, Blunt says the fashion police are the least of her concerns.

"When it's a red-carpet thing, I think it's good to just go for it," she says. "Who cares if someone hates it? If I love something -- if I think it's edgy and cool -- I don't care what anyone else thinks."

The star is equally down-to-earth when it comes to images of her in magazines and once again discusses her distaste for airbrushing.

"I don't like it when they stretch you out and make you all long and skinny," she says. "It makes you look like a Barbie. Who the hell looks like that?"

Not quite. Proving that she really knows how to make an entrance, Lady Gaga landed in Houston -- the latest stop on her tour -- wearing a white strait jacket-style dress.

It's like "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"... literally.

Sporting her signature heavy black sunglasses, sky-high black heels, and a messy bleached blonde bob, the singer struggled to Texas two-step her way out of the airport thanks to the tight restraints binding her legs together.

You'd have thought she'd have learned her lesson about practical airport wear after that whole heel-less platform boots-induced Heathrow stumble, but apparently not.

Hmmm -- maybe she is nuts!

Meanwhile, we're definitely not crazy about the baggy jumpsuit Kate Hudson chose to travel in .

This widely publicized shopper's paradise, the proceeds of which benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF), happens in East Hampton, NY, this weekend.

If you're not lucky enough to get in on the action, don't fret: QVC is offering its own version of Super Saturday, with a special two-hour segment featuring red-carpet interviews with celebs at the sale as well as Super Saturday deals.

Starting at 2 pm this Saturday (July 31), QVC will offer fashion, jewelry, accessories, and home bits at half the suggested retail price, with net proceeds benefiting the OCRF.

Some of the brands available on QVC include Amrita Singh and Judith Ripka jewelry; Nars, Bare Escentuals, Tarte, and L'Oréal cosmetics; Theory fashion and more.

"'QVC Presents Super Saturday Live' continues to be one of our most exciting shows of the year," Claire Watts, president of QVC's U.S. commerce, said in a statement.



"To have the opportunity to work with OCRF and help raise money for such a great cause is truly amazing."

Kim Kardashian and devoted shopper Kelly Ripa appear in the public service announcement promoting QVC's event and both will be at Super Saturday. Ripa has served as the host of the event for the past six years and has been taken to task for her own haul.

"It's guilt-free shopping at bargain-basement prices," she said in a statement. "No husband can argue with that, not even my own!"

Super Saturday was founded in 1998 by Donna Karan and Harper's Bazaar editor Liz Tilberis, who was then suffering from ovarian cancer. She passed away one year later.

Style tips

• Shorts: If you're concerned about your legs, longer shorts are not always the way to go. Knee length shorts can make the legs appear stumpy and wider. Instead, pick a style that's a bit shorter but cut away from the leg. Wider shorts provide contrast, making the legs look thinner and longer.
• Sneakers: Don't get us wrong, we love our Keds and Converse as much as the next girl. But if you're looking for a little sneaker variety, why not try the French equivalent? Bensimon. These kicks look chic, are made of lightweight canvas, and are ideal for a day of trekking between roller coasters.
• Hair: It's nearly impossible to fight sweaty manes and roller-coaster tangles. Keep cool by keeping hair up and out of the face in either a simple ponytail or easy-breezy braids.
• Bag: We could not be more thrilled about the return of the backpack. It's got a youthful summer look and is ideal for toting around sunscreen, snacks for the kids, and a change of clothes for when your little one (or, lets face it, you) take on those drippy sno-cones.
• Accessories: Don't wear 'em. Fussy necklaces, dangly earrings, and chunky bracelets look overdone and will just get twisted up on the Tilt-A-Whirl. Throw on a cute pair of shades and call it a day.
